RAK Ports has commissioned the Dynamic Under Keel Clearance System (DUKC®) for Saqr Port, which will be available for use from January 1st, 2020

DUKC® optimises the amount of cargo that any vessel can load by accurately determining the maximum safe sailing draft for that vessel, given the conditions on the day. This is achieved by digitally replicating the port with DUKC®. The DUKC® incorporates detailed modelling of the shipping operations, numerical analysis of ship motions, hydrodynamic models, channel survey data, and the assimilation of real-time and forecast environmental conditions.

DUKC® has safely facilitated 170,000+ transits for 120 ports, terminal and waterways, including the world’s largest bulk export ports. With more than 640 full scale ship measurements, is the most comprehensively validated UKC management system available.

The fees for using the system are as follows :

Shipping agents are requested to inform all Vessel Masters, Owners, Operators, Managers and Principals about the newly introduced system and advise them to make an advantage of system for optimum efficiency. Here’s a clearer breakdown in points:

  • Inner Harbor fee: AED 4,000 fixed for up to 10 cm draft benefit, plus AED 400 per additional cm, up to a maximum of AED 16,000 per vessel.
  • Deep-Water Bulk Terminal fee: AED 4,000 fixed for up to 5 cm draft benefit, plus AED 800 per additional cm, up to a maximum of AED 16,000 per vessel.
  • Benefits are assessed based on the existing maximum drafts and Under Keel Clearances (UKC) as defined in RAK Ports’ document.
  • Full details of RAK Ports’ Ruling Depths and UKC limits can be found in the provided document link.
